BACK GROUND: Mulberry Cottage was built in 2002 as an "olde worlde" private residence
at the rear of Grannie Rhodes' Cottage, 1830, in the historic Georgian village of Richmond.
The old cottage had proved to be too much of a challenge to restore and renovate for habitation.
Initially it was planned to use it for a museum. Mulberry Cottage is constructed from
the reclaimed wall of Hobart's Old Penitentiary, windows from Hobart's old Marine Board building
and other historic materials, so when you stay, you sleep behind the walls of the old prison!
Gardens are designed to create a rustic English country atmosphere
and the visitor is often tricked into believing that the house truly is 1800's.

NEW! self-contained Christmas Cottage, where "it is Christmas all the year round", is

in a secluded corner of the garden.
